Ingredients:
- Starch source
- Hops
- Yeast
- Priming sugars
Preparation mode:
Step 1 – Gather Equipment
To begin brewing you need to have the following equipment:
Large pot
Tubing and clamp
Air tight fermenting bucket
Air lock
Bottle filler
Thermometer
Bottles (use 48 12 oz bottles is recommended, and do not use twist-off bottles, only use bottles that require a bottle opener and are of high quality
Bottle brush (clean your bottles)
Bottle capper
Bottle caps
Sanitizing solution (you must sanitize everything before use)
Step 2 – Gather Ingredients
You need to have the following ingredients:
Starch source (the ingredient that yeast feeds on to begin the fermenting process, available as a pale malt extract)
Hops (adds bitterness)
Yeast (feed on starch to stimulate fermentation)
Priming sugars
Step 3 – Brewing
Boil your starch source (pale malt extract) and hops with water for an hour.
This releases the bitter qualities of the hops for flavor.
This is what creates a hot mixture called a wort
Step 4 – Cooling and Fermenting
Cool the wort to room temperature
Transfer the mixture to the fermenting bucket, and add more water until it reaches 5 gallons (or desired batch size)
Add yeast to begin the fermentation process
Seal the fermenting bucket with the airlock
Leave to ferment for 1-2 weeks
Step 5 – Priming and Bottling
After fermentation is complete, siphon into the large pot
Add priming sugars
Siphon beer into bottles
Cap each bottle with the capping device
Step 6 – Aging
Age the beer for 2-6 weeks before consumption (the longer the better)
Yeast will continue the fermentation process by feeding on the sugars you added, which will create carbon dioxide as a by-product to make your beer bubbly
Excess yeast and other undesirable sediment will drop out of the beer, and will enhance the flavor.
Well done! You’ve been patient, and now it’s time for you to enjoy your home brewed beer.
